Frequently Asked Questions

What programs does the WHGF offer?

We offer gymnastics classes for boys and girls ages 3-17 and competitive teams (artistic and rhythmic gymnastics for girls and T&T for boys and girls).

I have more questions. How can I get in touch with someone at the WHGF?

Please email info@wendyhilliard.org or call 212-316-0315 (NYC) and detroit@wendyhilliardfoundation.org, 313-221-9664 (Detroit).

How do I get a scholarship for my child to do gymnastics?

We offer scholarships to children based on financial need. Please contact our office for details on how to apply.

Gymnastics is expensive. What if my child does not receive a scholarship?

Even without a scholarship, our programs are subsidized through grants to make them as affordable as possible. We do have payment plans available. If you need assistance, please contact our office for details.

My child has taken gymnastics at another gym. Can they transfer to the WHGF?

We recommend that you sign your child up for Trial classes for an evaluation or sign up during the open registration period. This helps us understand their skill levels so that we can enroll them in the correct class. Please contact our office for details.

My child competed in gymnastics at another gym. Can they transfer to the WHGF?

To schedule a team tryout, please send an email to jocelyn@wendyhilliardfoundation.org

I don’t know much about gymnastics. How do I choose between rhythmic gymnastics and artistic gymnastics?

Our community classes teach all the disciplines of gymnastics, including the events you see on television as well rhythmic gymnastics and tumbling & trampoline (T&T). Your child will have the chance to see what he or she loves the most before choosing a discipline.

How does my child move up to the competitive team?

All students are assessed on an ongoing basis. The WHGF is a member of USA Gymnastics and our skill levels are part of the developmental program.

My child has special needs. Can they still participate in WHGF gymnastics programs?

All children are welcome at the WHGF. Please contact the office for registration.

How do I nominate someone to be featured on Black Gymnasts in History?

Please send an email to social@wendyhilliardfoundation.org

Uniforms and other apparel are sold online on our website.

Do you offer private lessons?

The WHGF has limited availability for private lessons. Please contact the office for additional information.

What is the difference between beginner and intermediate classes?

Our community classes serve as an introduction for children with no gymnastics experience. To advance to the intermediate class, a child will need to demonstrate consistent proficiency in specific skills on each gymnastics apparatus.

Do you have classes for adults?

Unfortunately, we do not have classes for adults at this time.

Can I watch my child do gymnastics?

Parents are not permitted to watch classes inside the facility on a regular basis, however, we offer a livestream of classes). We also have certain dates parents are invited to observe the class.
